Change of Plans
Well, 2009 is here! What a day it has been too. This was our plan for the day. We were going to get up and make a quick trip to Jonesboro to return some Christmas presents and then come home and do lunch with my parents. After that we were going to come home, pack and head off to deer camp for the weekend with Mollie's parents. Well, everything was going well until lunch. We had arrived at my parents' house to eat when Mollie's phone rang. It was her mom. She was calling to tell Mollie that their house was on fire and that she needed Mollie's help. We drop everything and fly back to Colt to check on everything. While driving 90 miles an hour Mollie is also calling 911. We get to her parents house just as the fire trucks do. It turns out that the fire was in the chimney. Her dad had just cleaned out the chimney and some of the soot fell down onto the stove in the fireplace. They have a wood burning stove that they use for heat. Apparently the soot and ash on top of the stove was beginning to burn and the smoke from the chimney leaked into the attic because of a crack in the chimney. The firemen removed the burning ash and soot and all is now well. The only damage was from the smoke. The whole house will have to be cleaned. We are just thankful that the house didn't burn and that the fire was contained in the chimney. They are very fortunate. The fire chief told us that if this had happened at night or if we hadn't been home, then the house would have burned to the ground. Thank God for sparing their home. I wouldn't want them to have to live with me (HA!)! Now, needless to say, we won't be going to deer camp.
